Meghalaya Honeymoon Case

An unfortunate and devastating case is in the news across India. A young couple from Indore went to Meghalaya for their honeymoon and ended up facing some very troubling and sad circumstances. This is now known as the Meghalaya honeymoon case.

The husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, was found dead in a deep gorge, and his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, went missing. The police say this could be murder, not an accident. The story has gone viral on NDTV News, The Hindu, and other major media.

What Happened to the Meghalaya Couple?

Raja and Sonam were married on May 11, 2025. A few days later, they left their home in Indore to go on their honeymoon in Meghalaya.

On May 23, they left a homestay in the town of Nongriat and were last seen on CCTV near Wei Sawdong Falls. After that, no one heard from them. The couple’s rented scooter was found parked near a café, but they were gone.

Later, on June 2, the body of Raja Raghuvanshi was found in a gorge. He had deep injuries, and police said it looked like he had been attacked. His wife, Sonam, was still missing at that time.

Police Investigation: Was It a Planned Murder?

Police now believe this is not just a simple missing case—it was planned. They say Sonam Raghuvanshi may have worked with another man named Raj Kushwaha to kill her husband. Raj is from Indore and is believed to be her secret boyfriend.

Here’s what the police found out:

  • Raj did not go to Shillong, but he helped plan the crime.
  • He sent three men to abduct and kill Raja.
  • Sonam and Raj had been in contact before the trip.

Police have now arrested Raj Kushwaha and three other men. The search for Sonam went on for days until she finally came forward.

Latest Update: Sonam Surrenders

On June 9, Sonam was located at a dhaba (roadside restaurant) in Uttar Pradesh. She had asked the dhaba owner for help and then called her family.  She later surrendered to police at a nearby station.

Sonam told police that her husband died while trying to save her from the attackers. But police are not fully convinced. They believe she was involved in the plan to kill him.

Public Reaction and What Leaders Say

The murder of the young Indore couple in Meghalaya has shocked the nation. People are angry and sad. Many are now calling it the “Raja Sonam case” on social media.

Meghalaya’s Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said,

“This is a rare and very sad case. Meghalaya is usually a safe place for tourists.”

The police say they are still working hard to find all the facts. Sonam is now being moved to Meghalaya for more questioning.

Family Wants CBI Inquiry

Back in Indore, Raja’s family is in pain. They say they want a CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) inquiry. Posters have gone up in the city saying,
